We are on an exciting journey of transformation and there are a number of roles within the Group Medical Directors Office that have recently been developed to support with the enhance and develop the Medical Leadership across UHN. Our Senior Medical Team will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of healthcare at UHN.

Main duties of the job

The Director of Medical Education will provide leadership to further develop and implement strategy and policy to ensure that our colleagues develop the knowledge, skills, and competence to achieve the University Hospital Northamptonshire (UHN) key operational objectives.

The post holder will develop strategic partnerships locally, regionally, and nationally to help achieve these goals. You will be required to provide leadership, strategic direction and vision for the assurance, management and delivery of postgraduate and undergraduate medical education across UHN.

This role is responsible for the quality of the learning environment provided by UHN for all Medical learner. The overall objective is to deliver the highest standards of education, thereby supporting UHN and wider partners to produce a competent, committed, compassionate and courageous workforce across our locality delivering the best healthcare possible.

Educations, Training and Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Professional registration with GMC
  • Advanced qualification in Education (Masters or equivalent) or experience of working at a similar level
  • Evidence of ongoing CPD in Education
Desirable criteria
  • PhD in Education
  • Management qualification

Knowledge/Experience

Essential criteria
  • Significant Experience in a senior leadership role in Education
  • Experience in leading cross organisation change programmes, aimed at improving organisational performance
  • Proven record of establishing effective partnership working across complex networks with external and internal parties
  • Detailed knowledge of the NHS Educational delivery frameworks and experience of strategic working with key stakeholders
  • Experience of effective budget management and delivering value for money
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of the use of quality improvement methodology

In submitting an application form, you authorise Kettering General Hospital (KGH) NHS Foundation Trust to confirm any previous NHS service details via the Electronic Staff Record (ESR) Inter Authority Transfer (IAT) process. Including factual reference, occupational health clearance and statutory and mandatory training record.

If you need to have a Disclosure Barring Service (DBS) check, as a requirement of the role, you will be required to repay the cost of obtaining a DBS check (£49.50) and this amount will be reclaimed from your first salary. From 1st February 2019 all new starters to the Trust are required to join the DBS update service as per Trust DBS Re-checking Policy which has an annual cost of £16.

New employees who do not join the update service will be required to pay £49.50 for a new DBS check in 3 years time.

Please note that news starters with KGH are subject to a six month probationary period.
