Subject Leader of Chemistry

apartmentImperial College London Mathematics School placeLondon calendar_month
Imperial College London Mathematics School (ICLMS) is a specialist maths school that opened in September 2023. The school provides a diverse range of young people with access to a unique educational experience. ICLMS is part of the Frontier Learning Trust alongside Woodhouse College.

The school is located adjacent to Woodhouse College in Finchley, North London and will move into a new permanent building in Spring 2025 on the same site. The school offers A levels in mathematics, further mathematics, physics and chemistry, along with additional A level options from the Woodhouse College curriculum.

We are seeking to appoint a subject leader of Chemistry at Imperial College London Mathematics School. This is a full-time, permanent post.

ICLMS opened with around 40 students in September 2023 and delivers a highly specialised A level STEM-based curriculum to enthusiastic young people from north London and the wider region. The school aims to attract high-achieving students from groups who do not normally progress to the most competitive university STEM courses.

Τhe successful candidate will teach A level chemistry to Year 12 and 13 students and, as the only chemistry teacher at Imperial Maths School, will be responsible for the chemistry curriculum. In the first year, the successful candidate will have a reduced timetable to allow for the design of the curriculum and to undertake the necessary preparatory work with the support of the lead lab-technician at Woodhouse College.

We are looking for someone who combines two important qualities: the expertise required to be an excellent A level teacher of chemistry, and an enthusiasm for the broader challenge of contributing to building a school from its inception based around a clear social mission.

This will involve commitment to the broader aspects of Imperial Maths School’s offer, including contributions to the super-curriculum, extending students beyond their A levels and building links between mathematics and science subjects, and the Outreach work of the school.

This is a rare and exciting opportunity to contribute to building an exceptional school. In line with the ethos and purpose of the school, we welcome applications from teachers from groups who are currently underrepresented in STEM industries and university courses.

Salaries will be on the sixth form college teachers’ salary scale between Point 3 and Point 9 which is currently £33,465 and £47,133 depending on experience, plus £3,082 London Weighting, per annum. In addition, a responsibility allowance will also be paid for subject leader duties of RA4 £2,469 per annum.

Please visit https://www.iclms.ac.uk/vacancies for more details and to apply.

Closing date: 9.00am on Monday 24 February 2025.

We are committed to equality and diversity. We encourage applications from black and minority ethnic groups which are currently underrepresented. The Trust is committed to safeguarding and the promotion of the welfare of children and young people.
