This is a fixed term contract due to end when the postholder returns to the role. At this point we cannot confirm exactly how long this contract will last, but it is unlikely to be more than 12 months.

This role requires regularly working on Saturdays. work patterns will be discussed at interview stage.

We're currently undertaking our pay review process and it is likely that this salary will be increased from 1st April 2025.

What it's like to work here

This role is based at gorgeous Newark Park, which is located in the Cotswolds and has fantastic views of the surrounding countryside.

You’ll be at the centre of a friendly, close-knit, and passionate team of staff and volunteers who look after this special site and share it with the public. You’ll be part of Newark’s leadership team and will be one of the duty managers. You’ll lead the team of conservation volunteers.

With our atmosphere of informality and hospitality, there’s lots of opportunity to use your creativity and energy to continue to develop our presentation standards in the house. The team is currently updating its interpretation and presentation, and this postholder will be involved with helping to deliver the presentation plan for Newark House, working alongside the curators.

What you'll be doing

As the Collections and House Officer, you’ll be responsible for the conservation of the collection and house at Newark Park.

Reporting to the Property Operations Manager, you'll be responsible for routine conservation, preventive conservation and the annual programme of deep cleaning. Your attention and expertise will help to ensure excellent standards of care throughout the house.

You'll collect and record information gathered during cleaning and housekeeping, to improve our knowledge and understanding of the house and all that’s in it. You’ll use preventive conservation methods to improve how we look after everything, and how we present it to visitors.
