Job overview

Innovation operates at a corporate level and spans across the whole organisation. Activities undertaken by the post-holder will support the shaping, leadership, co-production, and implementation of an organisational wide approach for innovation.

This post is fixed term/secondment for 36 months due to funding. If you are interested in applying for the secondment position, you must obtain permission from your current line manager prior to applying for this post.

Main duties of the job

The post-holder will be supported by the Project Manager and Head of Innovation, who will lead the implementation and monitoring of significant, transformational, and sustainable change that deliver improved benefits and outcomes for our citizens.

The postholder will support key innovation programmes/projects that closely align with the organisation’s ambitions. These programmes/projects will inform the shape of change needed for organisational transformation.

The Trust is fully committed to the delivery of the objectives of the Future Generations Act and its seven Wellbeing Goals. The Velindre Futures Programme will be aligned to these goals and all objectives and benefits will be mapped to record, assess, and promote our achievements against them.

The post holder will be responsible for ensuring the successful delivery of projects and produce the required products, to the required standard of quality and within the specified constraints of time and loss.

To support the delivery of a variety of work programmes to support the Project Management function for Innovation

To work as a member of the Innovation PMO, the Project Officer’s prime responsibility is to provide project and organisational support for key projects under the broader innovation portfolio.

The Project Officer will be required to take responsibility and manage designated elements of Projects e.g. supporting, facilitating, and monitoring progress of projects.

To provide administration support to the project as required.

To work with the project manager and Head of Innovation in the production of the required products within the agreed tolerances of the Project Brief.

Responsible to produce specified deliverables in a work package by undertaking specific activities, (e.g. intelligence gathering, creation of spreadsheets or databases, report writing, making recommendations to the Project Board).

Carry out research and development work in order to assist in the management of the project / projects.

Carry out Gap analysis activities.

Responsible for in the preparation and completion of routine and ad-hoc reports required by the project board /project manager or programme office.

Responsible for the production of specified deliverables as defined by project management team members by undertaking specific activities, (e.g. creation of spreadsheets or databases, report writing).

To be the initial point of contact for all correspondence for the project.

Keeping records of project correspondence and project expenditure.

Liaising with the Project Board or its appointed Project Assurance roles to assure the overall direction and integrity of the project.

Qualifications and Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Good level of educational attainment to degree level or equivalent experience
  • Prince 2 training (formal or informal, or willing to work towards attainment
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of further development - diploma or equivalent experience

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of administering projects
  • Good knowledge of Computer skills, and Microsoft Office Suite, with the ability to master new applications
  • Knowledge of techniques for planning, monitoring and controlling projects, e.g. PRINCE2
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of recording and monitoring financial information
  • Experience and understanding of change and configuration management, and information management and technology issues within the project environment.
  • Knowledge of the procurement process, including contract negotiations
