We have an exciting opportunity for a dynamic Band 7 Speech and Language Therapist to join our friendly and forward-thinking community team, acting as a highly Specialist Speech and Language Therapist with expertise in the area of bilingualism and also working as an integral part of our management team.
This is an opportunity to develop your clinical and leadership skills contributing to developing a Balanced System in Birmingham in order to improve and advocate for services to children with SLCN especially bilingual children in our large multicultural city.
Main duties of the job- You will provide Speech and Language Therapy at a highly specialist level, with a specific focus on the area of bilingualism, functioning in partnership with other agencies and disciplines to support in the holistic assessment, diagnosis and intervention for children and young people known to the service.
- You will demonstrate clinical leadership in bilingualism and represent the local team/service area in all appropriate meetings to support and develop quality services for bilingual children and young people across the city in an integrated partnership model.

- Significant new investment from health and our education partners to grow the team: new posts across a range of bands, including significant growth in our leadership team.
- We are working closely with Marie Gascoigne and the Better Communication team implementing a Balanced System approach to support children with SLCN, working in partnership with families, the Local Authority and a wide range of stakeholders.
- We are working in localities developing local networks in order to build skills in the wider workforce and increase the impact of our interventions.
- Experienced team committed to taking NQPs through preceptor-ship & a culture of ongoing learning and clinical supervision.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

- Contributing to discussions around setting the direction for the service including foreseeing risks and opportunities.
- Reviewing and interpreting research evidence relevant to specialist area and contributing to discussions on how to implement findings to the benefit of the service in line with service priorities.
- Supporting the Professional Leads and Service Clinical Manager in the development and implementation of an appropriate training programme for members of the team across the locality, using information from appraisals and personal development plans
- Taking a role in the local implementation and monitoring of clinical supervision/ practice support systems in line with relevant policies and procedures.
- Assisting the Service Clinical Manager and Professional Leads in the recruitment, selection, and induction of staff, as required.
- Participating in the development of clinical protocols for use within the Service.

Qualifications
Essential criteria- • First degree level qualification, relevant to service area
- • HCPC Licence to practice
- • Full Membership of Professional body , relevant to service area
- • Evidence of recent relevant CPD activities in specialist area
- • Relevant training in specialist area e.g. post graduate dysphagia qualification, Sensory-Integration, neurological rehabilitation
- • Relevant training in clinical leadership
Experience
Essential criteria- • Extensive experience of working as a specialist therapist with children and families in a range of multi-disciplinary and / or multi-agency teams in Local Authority and Health settings
- • Extensive experience of managing a mixed and complex caseload of children and young people with a range of developmental disorders and delays
- • Significant experience of managing safeguarding concerns and an understanding of local processes
- • Relevant experience of using leadership skills for service development
- • Significant experience in providing support and supervision to colleagues and other professionals
Skills
Essential criteria- • Knowledge of the national and political agenda influencing health services and specific service area
- • Competent in using electronic systems relevant to practice in the Trust and in the clinical area
