An exciting opportunity has arisen and applications are invited for the post of a fifth whole time Consultant Dermatologist to work in the Dermatology department based at Kettering General Hospital.
The dermatology service currently comprises 2 Consultant Dermatologists (one a dual qualified Plastic surgeon, 1 locum consultants completing CSR application,1 specialty doctor, 4 dermatology nurse specialists, an advanced surgical nurse practitioner and 2 skin cancer nurse specialists.There is full general nursing and admin support.
We have a dedicated outpatient area within a large medical centre which has facilities for phototherapy, patch testing and dressings. There are 2 well equipped operating rooms which support a strong surgical interest in the department. We treat the majority of all the patients seen with skin cancer within the department.Most of the remaining cases are treated by colleagues within plastic surgery and Maxillofacial surgery. There is a small GPwSI led community service and as the Trust develops the collaborative workstream through Northamptonshire this role would be expected to support the community work and be prepared to work more within the community as demand requires.
We are looking for a dynamic colleague to enhance our services and would favour someone with a special interest to complement those of the current service.
Main duties of the job
There is capacity to develop new services and tailor the job to an individuals area of interest. We expect the candidate to offer clinics both face to face ad virtually in Kettering and also at community hospitals based in Corby and/or Irthlinghborough.
Kettering is a well-served modern expanding town with excellent connections, a 55 minute rail service to London and is surrounded by an active rural countryside with attractive villages.
Applicants must be included on the Specialist Register for Dermatology or be within six months of achieving the Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) at the time of interview for the post
The exact allocation of programmed activities in terms of the time-table and the commitments of the post will be agreed with the Chief Executive of the Trust.
The duties described are subject to review from time to time in the light of the changing requirements of the service. If alterations to the duties are required, these will be mutually agreed between the appointee and the Trust.
Programmed Activities (example at time of job description being developed and may be subject to change). Proposed job plan (negotiable): To be confirmed, however successful candidates will be expected to deliver a minimum of 6 outpatient/Minor operative sessions each week.

Consultant would be able to attend LRI academic meeting on the 2^nd and 4th Thursday am; and also the 3rd Thursday pm to join the Royal Society of Medicine or engage in local training opportunities.
This is a provisional timetable; there will be opportunity to change sites and provide specialist clinics. In addition as the collaborative working develops there will be a link with GPwSI across the county and help develop the countywide service.

Provision and administration of the dermatology service with responsibility for diagnosis, treatment and after care.
Audit
Projects are undertaken within the department which also participates in monthly regional dermatology meetings which are an essential part of the dermatologists’ commitment to continuing medical education. These sessions include an audit element and joint consultation clinics.The dermatologists are also welcome at the Kettering Friday afternoon medical directorate academic half day which also includes audit content. The Trust actively supports applications for appropriate study leave.

Essential criteria- MRCP
- Registered (or eligible to be registered) with the GMC (Entry on the GMC Specialist Register via CCT (proposed CCT date must be within 6 months of interview/CESR or European Community Rghts
- Name on the Specialist Register for Dermatology or be within 6 months of CST.
- Full participation in CME
Knowledge
Essential criteria- Higher specialist training scheme in Dermatology
- Broad based dermatology experience

- Willingness to develop an area of sub-specialisation
Skills
