The International Institute of Tropical Agriculture seeks suitable candidates for the position below at the Institute’s office in the United Kingdom. Reporting to the IITA Ltd (UK) Office Finance and Administration Manager this position will be responsible for management of assigned pre-purchase enquiries from obtaining supplier quotation through to purchase order and delivery to the end user.

Working cross functionally with colleagues with the IITA Supply Chain function both in the UK and Africa.

Position: Junior Buyer/Expediter
Location: IITA Ltd (UK)

DUTIES:

Successful candidate will among other things perform the following duties:

  • Maintaining accurate and clear records ensuring activity tracking and demonstrating methodology.
  • Work cross functionally with IITA colleagues to ensure requirements for all areas are met in an effective and timely manner.
  • Ensuring on time delivery, challenging non-compliance in areas of responsibility. Purchase order progress monitoring and updating.
  • Monitoring and tracking daily/weekly supplier deliveries to IITA shippers in UK or USA or direct from country of origin to point of delivery
  • Identifying alternative suppliers for engineering / laboratory and equipment / spares requirements where OEM or suppliers are not identified.

Requirements

Eligibility Requirement:

  • Applicants must be residents of the UK, as IITA would not be responsible for processing work permits or visas.

QUALIFICATION:

Diploma in Purchasing & Supply or related field. CIPS, UK intermediate certificate, or level 4 would be an added advantage with a minimum of five (5) years performing similar functions in a structured organisation.

COMPETENCIES:

The ideal candidate must possess:

  • Excellent knowledge in MS office, statistics, typing and administration skills.
  • Good communication and listening skills.
  • Work experience in a purchasing department would be an advantage.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Good organizational skills.
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines.
  • Commercial awareness and ability to grow with the organization
  • Enthusiastic, pro-active, dedicated and hard-working.
