The Associate Director of Nursing and Head of Midwifery will work to the Deputy Chief Nurse and Director ofMidwifery and with the Chief Nurse and Midwife, Clinical Directors and Director of Operations to set the
strategic direction for their clinical groups and lead the delivery of effective clinical services, supported by
Head of Nursing (HoN) for Gynaecology, a HoN for Neonatal Unit, a Deputy Head of Midwifery and
Consultant Midwife.
The post holder is responsible and accountable for the operational nursing and midwifery management ofthe clinical groups within their area of responsibility. Ensuring the optimal use of capacity and staffing within
the clinical areas and that nursing and midwifery staff have the required skills, knowledge and competency
to deliver safe, effective high quality clinical care, ensuring value for money and effective budgetary
management and control.
Main duties of the job

Qualifications
Essential criteria- Registered Midwife
- Relevant Master’s degree or equivalent qualification
- Leadership course / qualification
- Registered Nurse part one Adult or Children
KNOWLEDGE & NATURE OF EXPERIENCE
Essential criteria- Recent extensive operational management experience in a senior nurse leadership position, including staff, budgetary and performance management
- Clinical expertise and experience relevant to clinical group
- Recent expertise and experience in clinical service management at a senior level in an acute setting including Maternity, Neonatal & Gynaecology Services
- Extensive knowledge and understanding of nursing operational issues in a Specialist Trust
- Demonstrable experience and knowledge of delivering improvements in clinical performance and standards
- Advanced knowledge & understanding of current midwifery nursing policy & practice issues
- Excellent understanding of the principles of workforce planning
- Proven ability to produce clear, accurate, written and verbal reports
- Expert knowledge of the clinical Governance and Risk frameworks required to deliver safe, high quality clinical care
- Evidence of leading quality improvement initiatives with multi-professional teams

- Proven ability to analyse and interpret highly complex data and sensitive problems and develop and implement workable solutions to resolve
