Birmingham Women’s and Children’s Hospital is looking for a dynamic, motivated individual to join the dermatology team. BCH is a busy centre for paediatric dermatology referrals and the nursing teams provide support in managing children with skin disease.

We require a children’s trained nurse with considerable post registration experience including working with children and young people. Experience working with children with dermatology conditions is essential as the successful post holder will be providing holistic care, decision making and advancing treatment plans.

You should be enthusiastic and self- motivated, with experience in Dermatology. You will be expected to embrace change and be dedicated to supporting the provision of expert care through collaborative working with the multi-disciplinary teams in the Dermatology service and throughout the Trust.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will work in the hospital setting at Birmingham Children’s Hospital, this will include Nurse led clinics in the Outpatient Department, as well as reviewing and supporting inpatients on the wards.

The post includes working alongside Senior Clinical Nurse specialists, Consultant Dermatologists and varied members of the Multi Disciplinary Team which includes that of the Epidermolysis Bullosa service.

The post holder will be able to co-ordinate clinics and outpatient care at BCH, often liaising with multidisciplinary teams, GP’s and community teams to effect best possible clinical outcomes and provide a service which is flexible and responsive to the needs of patients and their families.

The Paediatric Dermatology department at BCH has 2 clinical nursing teams, The Epidermolysis Bullosa team which is nationally funded and the general dermatology team. This post is for a job on the general team but cross cover between teams is occasionally provided.

The general dermatology team has a busy outpatient and day care service, with some ward admissions. The workload comprises of direct patient contact in a clinic and inpatient setting. The education of families and colleagues in skin care. Administration including external care plans, child protection meetings and clinic letters.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • RSCN or RN Child Branch
Desirable criteria
  • Non medical prescriber
  • Qualification/Experience in Dermatology nursing
  • ENB 998 or equivalent in teaching

Knowledge and Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience working with children with Dermatological conditions
  • Training in and understanding of all aspects of Safeguarding Children
  • Ability to work flexibly in the clinical environment
  • Able to organise and participate in educational events at local and national level.
  • Ability to access, use and interpret word, excel, powerpoint and email (NHS.net)
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of working in the outpatient setting
  • Ability to participate in research and audit
