Job location: HQ is at 31 Berkeley Square in Clifton, Bristol with additional hot-desk workspace at Squareworks, also in Berkeley Square.

The Full English (Education) Ltd is a micro-business which has been operating in the field of educational resources for almost 20 years. Its mission is to encourage and support dynamic, engaging and challenging teaching and learning, especially about English language, literature and linguistics.

The excellence of this work has been recognized by the Royal Society of Literature, the English Association, the National Association for the Teaching of English and the British Council. For the last 12 years our major project has been the development of Poetry By Heart, a national poetry recitation competition currently funded by the Department for Education, and the accompanying website www.poetrybyheart.org.uk.

  1. The Role

The Project Assistant role is an entry-level position offering the opportunity to work on different projects and tasks, and to develop a variety of workplace skills. We take an active approach to staff mentoring and development; previous Project Assistants have progressed to roles in Arts Administration, Publishing, Film Production, Creative Project Management, Teaching, Social Research and Evaluation, and Copywriting.

The Project Assistant is responsible for supporting the smooth running of the Poetry By Heart programme - from its launch in October to the Grand Finale in July. The postholder will be a member of multiple overlapping project teams involving The Full English Directors, the Poetry By Heart Head of Learning and Engagement, contracted team members and external partners.

  1. Tasks and responsibilities
Process new school registrations to include approvals, data-checking and weekly processing of competition pack deliveries
Respond to straightforward email and telephone queries from teachers and parents, and collate feedback for monthly programme reports
Update the team calendar and provide the reception team with weekly updates about team availability and likely issues arising
Manage post/parcels that arrive and organise delivery/collection of post, parcels and materials for events, and fulfill shop orders
Provide administrative and simple technical support for online and in-person teacher workshops, including weekly Poetry Forum
Coordinate content for the fortnightly e-newsletter, weekly Poem of the Week emails and social media

Co-ordinate half-termly consortium partnership meetings, including minute-taking and agenda circulation

Co-ordinate team logistics for conferences and other networking events, and promote the competition in-person at some events
Provide administrative support for the regional judging process and the production of certificates and records of achievement

Support Grand Finale registration by liaising with parents, teachers, guests and partners, and producing data and information required

Participate in the Grand Finale at Shakespeare’s Globe, London, in an assigned role
  1. Selection criteria
Customer-focused interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate with a wide range of people
Administrative skills with a good working knowledge of Microsoft Office software, excellent attention to detail and proficient standard English
Organizational skills with the ability to plan and prioritise a varied workload
Adaptable, ‘can-do’ attitude, willingness to learn and a supportive team member
Interest in young people and a working knowledge of how UK state schools and teachers function
Meets legal requirements for employment in the UK
