UHMBT are excited to announce a fantastic opportunity to apply for a newly created acute Specialist Doctor in Paediatrics vacancy based at Furness General Hospital, on the doorstep of the Lake District, England's largest National Park and UNESCO World Heritage Site
We are seeking dynamic, motivated and ambitious individuals who will enhance our established and expanding team of consultant paediatricians. You will play a vital role in the delivery of healthcare for Children and Young People across the Morecambe Bay Footprint with the ability to work independently, but within a supportive, forward thinking and collaborative team.
An area of special interest to complement those already available in the Department is welcomed and can be discussed. We are particularly interested in candidates with an interest in Undergraduate Education or Safeguarding but would support the pursuit of a SPIN module in another speciality as appropriate if required.We would also support candidates in developing a special interest in these areas if that interest is new to them
Main duties of the job
Furness General Hospital provides a 1:7 on-call to the acute paediatric services including the Special Care Baby Unit where we operate a consultant of the week model

Working for our organisation
We operate from three main hospitals-Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.
FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.
WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.
All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.

Person specification
Essential
Essential criteria- Full GMC registration with a licence to practise at time of appointment
- Medical Degree from a recognised university
- MRCPCH or recognised equivalent qualification
- Meets the criteria set out in the Specialist grade generic capabilities framework.
- In date Level 3 Child Safeguarding
- In date NLS or equivalent
- In date APLS or equivalent
Experience
Essential criteria- Completed a minimum of 12 years’ medical work (either continuous period or in aggregate) since obtaining a primary medical qualification of which a minimum of six years should have been in General Paediatrics in the Specialty Doctor and / or closed SAS grades. ( with a minimum of 6 months tertiary level neonatal experience working at tier 2 level on the rota )
- Equivalent years’ experience in relevant specialty from other medical grades including from overseas will also be accepted.
