Hays are delighted to have partnered with a busy local authority who are looking to appoint a Senior / Chartered Town Planner to assist their development management team on a temporary contract basis. This will initially be a short-term contract, expected to last approx 3 months.

However, there could be scope to extend beyond this.

You will be expected to work from the office on a hybrid basis 2–3 days per week, so applicants should live within a commutable distance from Glasgow.

Your new role

Working as part of the development management team and reporting to the Principal Planner, you will be tasked with processing a high volume of local development and householder applications, and providing planning advice on planning issues with any given development.

You will be responsible for ensuring applications received are assessed under relevant local and national planning legislation in accordance with statutory obligations, policies and good practice. You will be required to develop effective working relationships with development partners, consultants and the internal teams involved in successful project delivery and will have a keen understanding of the development process as a whole.

What you'll need to succeed
  • An RTPI accredited (or equivalent) undergraduate or postgraduate qualification, ideally with Chartered membership of RTPI.
  • 2 or more years' post-qualification experience within the industry, specifically development management
  • Detailed understanding of the Scottish planning system
  • Familiarity with IDOX Uniform case management system (or similar)
  • Motivation and organisation to prioritise your own caseload
  • Strong communication skills to liaise with colleagues, clients, and external stakeholders in a timely manner
  • A full UK driving licence and access to your own vehicle.

Hybrid and flexible working is offered; with 2-3 days per week office-based, and the rest of the week remote. Part-time applications will also be considered.

The hourly rate for this post is negotiable, dependent upon your experience, but will be in the region of £25.50 - £28.50ph PAYE. Please note that this role falls in-scope of IR35.
