Hours per week: 37 Monday – Friday, 08:30 - 17:00
Role Length: This opening assignment is for 3 monthsCity: EXETER

The purpose of the role is to assume a lead role in advising clients on specialist aspects of law and practice as required.
Key Responsibilities:
Oversee and manage a caseload related to childcare law, including child protection, care proceedings, and adoption cases for the County Council.Respond promptly to requests for legal advice, representation, and support from County Council employees on matters relating to childcare law and child welfare.
Manage and represent the Council in all aspects of childcare-related court proceedings, including care orders, child protection hearings, and adoption cases.
Advise and/or represent the County Council in court, during meetings, or at formal appeal hearings on childcare matters as required by the County Solicitor. This includes giving clear, concise legal advice on complex cases involving children and families.
Review and determine appeals related to childcare matters, including challenges to care plans, child protection decisions, and internal disputes, ensuring the best interests of children are central to all decisions.Participate in the Legal Services’ Out of Hours service, providing immediate legal assistance to the Emergency Duty Team in urgent childcare and child protection matters, ensuring appropriate legal actions are taken.
Undertake any other legal duties related to childcare law that may be assigned by the Legal Services managers, contributing to the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the legal department.
Key requirements:
Law Society admitted and Solicitor Regulatory Authority registered solicitor, Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives or Bar Standards Board registered barrister.A thorough knowledge of childcare law
Considerable experience in case management is essential along with
Demonstrable experience of working in childcare.
Adequate experience of managing own workload.
Good advocacy skillsAbility to absorb and interpret legislation, case law and procedures.
Ability to assimilate detailed and complex information and make judgments on the way that certain procedures have been followed.
