As Contracts Manager working for Strategic Estates you will be the key link between the Principal Supply Chain Partner delivering the new Emergency Department & Critical Care unit for Dorset County Hospital and the DCH Foundation Trust stakeholders, supporting the delivery of the scheme with project management of Trust-side works needed alongside the main works, site supervision of the main works, risk identification and mitigation, contract administration and handover to operational teams.
Working closely with colleagues in Estates & Facilities, you will ensure smooth handovers and synchronisation with works undertaken by others.
Main duties of the job
To be the technical and contractual specialist for the Strategic Estates team.
to provide effective leadership and management of design teams and other consultants engaged for project delivery .
To develop and interpret complex client briefs applying knowledge, experience, approved codes of practice, Health Technical Memoranda, Health Building Notes to confirm to all statutory requirements.
To ensure engagement of the relevant service leads or clinicians throughout the life of the project.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The post holder will work across the Strategic Estates team and Estates & Facilities Department to support the delivery of large capital schemes, from inception to completion. This will include concepting, detailed design, procurement, project management of works, site supervision, contract administration and handover to operational teams.Work will be undertaken efficiently with a high degree of financial awareness.
The post holder will take on formal responsibility within the NEC contract suite as Works Supervisor.This is to ensure construction is prescriptively following the contracted Works Information. Contract mechanisms to overcome blockages must be utilised regularly along with the ability to escalate within
agreed criteria and processes.
The post holder will need to lead on smaller capital (<£2m) projects linked to the Strategic Estates programme and ensure contractors follow contractual terms and site rules and policies.
Working closely with colleagues in Estates & Facilities, the post holder will ensure smooth handovers and synchronisation with works undertaken by others.
Regular site attendance across the Trust campus is required along with occasional travel off-site for peer meetings and conferences.

Essential criteria- Must hold full & valid car driving licence and have access to a vehicle
- Requirement to infrequently work outside of normal working hours
Education, Qualifications & Training
Essential criteria- Education to degree level or equivalent experience
- NEC contract formal qualification - Project Manager or Works Supervisor
- Project Management Qualification
- Formal training or qualification in a construction, mechanical or electrical discipline
- Corporate membership of a construction-related institute or body eg RFICS, RIBA, CIOB
Knowledge & Experience
Essential criteria- Proven track record of project planning, implementation and completion
- Knowledge of estates and facilities services in healthcare
- Experience managing complex capital projects
- Experience of client managing tier one construction contractors
- Experience communicating commercially sensitive and complex and often contentious information to stakeholders
- Experience of managing multi-skilled staff and specialist consultants
- Experience of writing works specifications and tender documentation
- Experience of working in an NHS environment
