Senior NPD Technologist (MEAT)

About the Role

We have a fantastic opportunity for a Senior Product Development Technologist to join the NPD team at James Hall & Co. Ltd, Preston. The role is perfect for someone looking to develop their experience in meat-based NPD. Working as part of a busy NPD

department, the successful candidate will support in the delivery of new and existing product development of our portfolio of

cooked meats, bacon & raw meat.

Here’s What You Can Expect to be Doing

The responsibilities of this role involve supporting the product development process from concept to launch, ensuring all tasks
are carried out in compliance with SPAR & James Hall policies and industry standards. This includes coordinating various stages of

development, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and ensuring the successful delivery of new products.

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Supporting the NPD manager and team in developing new products in line with SPAR & James Hall policies.
  • Organising, running, and documenting benchmarking exercises.
  • Liaising with suppliers for new raw materials and packaging.
  • Evaluating raw materials in line with legislation to ensure safe product launches.
  • Leading and documenting factory trials.
  • Organising and overseeing controlled taste panels.
  • Completing NPD documentation and Gate process documents.
  • Testing and validating products throughout development.
  • Checking and approving artwork proofs.
  • Supporting Production, Technical, and Trading departments for smooth product launches.
  • Conducting meetings with relevant stakeholders.
A Few Things About You
  • Demonstrable experience in an NPD or Technical department or meat-based Production department.
  • A degree in Food, Food Science, Nutrition, or a related field is preferred.
  • Strong understanding of food legislation.
  • Knowledge of microbiological issues and ability to interpret laboratory results.
  • Excellent planning, organisation, and documentation skills.
  • Flexibility to accommodate trial work when necessary.
  • Ability to work independently while also contributing effectively to a team.
  • Keen attention to detail, with strong grammar and spelling skills.
  • Clear communication skills and ability to engage with staff at all levels.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
