We are looking for a registered professional with a passion for teaching and the development of unregistered staff. As part of our in-house Apprenticeship Team, you will be supporting our Trust’s HCAs to achieve Level 3 Health apprenticeships, delivering clinical workshops and teaching and assessing patient care on various clinical areas.

You will manage your own caseload of learners, providing them with support and encouragement, and clear guidance and feedback on how to achieve their qualifications by their funding deadlines. Holding a recognised vocational assessor qualification is desirable but not essential as full training and support will be given to achieve this if not already held.

As a team we work cross site, managing own diary and working mostly office hours but following a flexible and agile working model. This is a great opportunity to become more involved and influence how the Trust values and retains our HCA workforce, as well as ensuring excellent standards of patient care.

This is an essential post for HCA development in clinical practice and a fundamental requirement of the role is consistent and effective role-modelling of excellent patient care. You must be a registered Nurse with a passion for nurturing and teaching, consistent strong values, be able to influence change through persistence, diplomacy and vision.
  • To assess Health Apprentices against National Standards using efficient and current assessment practices to ensure achievement and improve standards of patient care
  • Deliver education programmes providing underpinning knowledge and practical skills to Health Apprentices
  • Promote and develop the value of Apprenticeships for Health Care Support Workers and and raise any issues concerning clinical practice to appropriate managers

The post holder will:-
  • Provide support to Bands 1-4 Apprenticeship Co-ordinator in extending Apprenticeship awareness and provision across the Trust.
  • Provide support to the practical application of initiatives and priorities as they come through the National and Trust agenda
  • Promote high standards of clinical practice and patient care through contact with learners and through highlighting issues and exceptions to relevant ward staff and managers.
  • Deliver underpinning knowledge training as appropriate to own competence
  • Support allocated Apprentices through their Apprenticeship programme, assessing units and setting SMART targets for achievement of other apprenticeship components as applicable.
  • Maintain appropriate records of training and learner progress
  • Maintain contact and familiarity with current clinical practice
  • Ensure advice and guidance given to candidates confirms to standards, and any clinical policies and protocols applying to practice
  • Manage the process of allocated learners through their planned awards
  • Manage workload and time effectively
  • Be a role model of professional practice and conduct
  • Liaise effectively with clinical areas to ensure a positive and constructive learning environment is in place for candidates
  • Give active support to the continual improvement of learning and development provision and resources
  • Liaise effectively with Bands 1-4 Apprenticeship Co-ordinator, Assistant Director for OD and Talent Management, Learning Centre team, Practice Development Team and Ward Managers
