Job overview

We are currently looking to recruit 3 enthusiastic Clinical Fellow / Trust Doctor (ST 1-2 Level equivalent) to a post in the Respiratory Department at St Bartholomew’s Hospital, part of Barts Health NHS Trust to start August 2025.

The Respiratory Department at St Bartholomew’s Hospital is a specialist unit looking after patients with a range of problems including cystic fibrosis, bronchiectasis, home ventilation, and severe asthma. The post-holder will join a team of 5 SHO level doctors including two Core Medical trainees and 1 FY2 covering the Respiratory wards.

Lung cancer clinic attendance is included in the rota as a dedicated training opportunity and for the appropriate candidate there is also the opportunity to attend other specialist clinics, multi-disciplinary meetings and procedure lists.

Main duties of the job

To provide evidence based care.

To have regard at all times to the clinical and quality standards set out within the Clinical Academic Group (CAG) & Trust guidelines.

To liaise effectively and on a timely basis with colleagues within the Respiratory Department and other clinical specialities within the Trust particularly Acute Medicine, Diabetes, Gastroenterology & Hepatology, HIV, Renal, Rheumatology, Interventional Radiology, Anaesthetics and ITU, General Practitioners, community services, and all healthcare agencies.

To maintain and promote team and multi-disciplinary work, working closely and regularly with the consultant medical staff and the members of the Acute Medicine and Respiratory Departments.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

To provide cover for annual and study leave of colleagues so far as is practicable.

Continuing responsibility for the care of patients in his/her charge, including all administrative duties associated with patient care.

To use the Trust IT systems effectively.

To regularly check Trust email account and respond in a timely manner to emails.

To adhere to all procedures and protocols and update them as and when necessary through a consultative process.

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • MB BS or equivalent.
  • Full Registration with the GMC
Desirable criteria
  • MRCP Part 1

Clinical Knowledge & Skills

Essential criteria
  • The applicant must be familiar with and be able to demonstrate an understanding of the major principles of the GMC’s Good Medical Practice
  • The applicant must have Foundation Competencies or equivalent.
  • The applicant must have experience of Audit, Research and/or Quality Improvement.
Desirable criteria
  • Current ALS certification
  • At least 6 months experience of working in the NHS
  • Experience of Teaching.

Language & Communication Skills

Essential criteria
  • The applicant must have demonstrable skills in listening, reading, writing and speaking in English that enable effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues, as set out in paragraph 22 of the GMC’s Good Medical Practice.
