Facilitates entry of live donor pairs into the National Living Kidney Donor Sharing Scheme (NLKDSS)

Main duties of the job

A registered nurse who shares responsibility with the Transplant Co-Ordinator Team for the assessment of potential live donors and their recipients. Co-ordinates living kidney donation (LKD) and living kidney transplant (LKT) for a mixed caseload of patients from Bristol and other referring renal units.
Facilitates entry of live donor pairs into the National Living Kidney Donor Sharing Scheme (NLKDSS) Has the ability to communicate effectively via phone/email/face to face with NHS Blood and Transplant (NHSBT), Human Tissue Authority (HTA) as well as with potential donors and medical teams in the UK and abroad to facilitate live donation internationally.

Provide education, expert advice and specialist support to patients, their families and staff on matters relating to living kidney donation/transplantation.

Prepare and present live donation cases at a weekly multi-disciplinary team meeting (MDT). Sensitively relay meeting outcomes to potential live donors and recipients, maintaining the confidentiality of both parties.

Facilitate a smooth process from initial referral through to operation and post-donation follow-up, ensuring statutory requirements for live donation and any necessary additional tests are completed satisfactorily. Participate in a 1:5 on call rota for deceased donor kidney offers, including at weekends

Essential criteria
  • Registered nurse with 2 years experience
  • Acute Hospital Experience
  • BSC Hons Degree registered nurse
  • Recent renal experience
  • Recent study at Degree level
Desirable criteria
  • Intensive care experience or Similar experience
  • Renal Experience
  • willingness to study or attend conferences
