We are actively seeking a Quality Officer to join the Southwest Genomic Laboratory Hub (SWGLH) team. This role offers an exciting opportunity to be involved in the Quality Management and continual improvement of the Genomics service provided at Bristol Genetics Laboratory.

The SWGLH is a partnership between North Bristol NHS Trust and the Royal Devon University Healthcare Foundation Trust. The GLH is responsible for the delivery of high-quality genomic testing for the Southwest region, covering Cornwall, Devon, Bristol, and Gloucestershire.

As a Quality Officer, you will work alongside the Quality Manager at Bristol Genetics Laboratory to play a crucial role in ensuring compliance with International Quality standards, and maintaining laboratory accreditations. You will provide support to colleagues, ensuring the continual improvement of evolving laboratory processes, through key activities such as internal audit.

Working with theLead Quality Manager for the Southwest Genomics Laboratory Hub at the Bristol site, implement a programme of internal audits, including training of new auditors

Manage nonconformities and incidents, ensuring appropriate completion and monitoring for trends

Develop, review and promote compliance with departmental policies and procedures

Assist in maintenance of laboratory accreditations, including involvement in all stages external assessments

Thepostholdershould have experience of Quality Management Systems and in undertaking internal audits

The postholder will be required to deputise for the Quality Manager in departmental, regional and national meetings as required.

Laboratory

To provide Quality Management System support for the laboratory under the direction of the Quality Manager.

To work in accordance with the departmental policies and Standard Operating Procedures and promote compliance with policies and procedures throughout the laboratory.

To assist in the development, review and implementation of departmental policies and procedures as required.

To participate in quality audits and other quality improvement projects, promoting continuous improvement activities and implementing action plans

To ensure that quality audits and quality improvement project activity are accurately documented and recorded for assurance purposes.

To design, arrange and conduct internal audits, identifying points of weakness, gaps in compliance and risks, and raising these findings in the Quality Management System.

To assist in external audits related to laboratory accreditation and licenses as required, generating audit response reports, and assisting in closure of findings.

To assist in Internal Quality Assurance reviews, including the Annual Management Review.

To have awareness of health and safety risk management, including reporting any adverse incidents and monitoring for trends.

To participate in Quality risk management activities including, performing risk assessments for e.g. prospective change, or following non-conformances.

To process new equipment and help manage the control of the asset records in the Q-Pulse Quality Management software.

To assist the Quality manager in the logging, tracking and review of nonconformities and incidents, ensuring CAPA is fit for purpose and actions are completed timely.

To complete and maintain documents (written and electronic) to ensure data integrity in a timely and accurate manner.

Produce KPI data reports as required.

Communication

Communicate with patients, clinicians, laboratory and nursing staff from North Bristol Trust and other NHS organisations regarding issues or incidents noted.

To communicate with other members of the Department in order to co-ordinate Quality tasks and ensure satisfactory compliance with, and maintenance of, the Quality Management System.
