Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will be self-driven to lead on the development of patient care and new innovations, across the Acute and Integrated Community Care Directorate.
The Clinical Matron will provide visible, accessible leadership to services, wards, and departments within their given area of responsibility, developing nursing services in conjunction with the Clinical leads, Deputy Head of Nursing and in line with the strategic direction of the Trust.
The Clinical Matron will lead and support these areas ensuring all national and local quality standards are met.
To ensure a consistent and co-ordinated approach to the operational management and service provision throughout the area of responsibility.
To develop and maintain close links with all appropriate stakeholders regarding implementation of agreed care pathways, achievement of CQUINs across both primary and secondary care.
To monitor financial performance against all delegated services, influence, and support budget holders in the effective management of those budgets.
To work jointly with the Clinical Leads and Service Line / Operational Managers in ensuring that developments and service improvements are centred on the needs of the patient, responsive to clinical needs and appropriate to the provision of a cost effective, safe, high-quality service.To deliver those quality indicators within the scope of responsibility and work with other Trust personnel in the delivery of all quality indicators.

Qualifications
Essential criteria- Degree level education or equivalent in relevant related subject area
- First Level Registered Nurse
- Teaching and Assessing Course or equivalent
- Suitable Management qualification
- Leadership qualification
Skills
Essential criteria- Ability to lead and direct clinical teams and proactively manage performance to ensure delivery of key operational standards
- Presentation/associated IT skills including Microsoft word including excel and PowerPoint applications
- Ability to write clear and concise reports and present information relevant to sphere of responsibility within agreed timescales
- Excellent communicator with effective persuasion and negotiation skills and the ability to motivate and influence others
- Ability to manage projects and complex tasks requiring analytical and problem-solving skills
- Advanced Communication skills
- Experience at working in an emergency department at a senior nursing level
Knowledge
Essential criteria- Experience working in NHS at a senior level
- Root Cause Analysis Training
- Operational management experience of working within Acute services
- Budgetary management, cost improvement planning and quality assessment
- Good track record of internal and external partnership working
- Management of employee relations in accordance with HR policies and procedures
- Practical experience of leading change management agendas
- Understanding clinical governance, risk assessment, appraisal and mitigation
- Proven experience of creating opportunities through partnership working
- Demonstrate a working knowledge of urgent care, observation, ambulatory care and medical assessment services and the subsequent management of patients within an acute setting
