RECEPTIONIST JOB DESCRIPTION REPORTS TO: Deputy Practice Manager/Practice Manager Job Responsibilities: Reception Receiving patients consulting with members of Practice team Deal with all general enquires, explain procedures Handing completed repeat prescriptions to patient and checking names and address.

Be able to cover all reception position as necessary Explain Practice arrangements and formal requirements to new patients and those seeking temporary cover and ensure procedures are completed Advise patients of relevant charges for private (non General medical Services) services, accept payment and issue receipt for same Any money taken is logged in the petty cash book Visitors Book, visitors to be requested to sign the visitors book Deliveries to be recorded in the book at reception Appointments Process appointment requests for today and future appointments from patients by telephone and in person.

Amend and cancel appointments in line with the practice appointment procedures ensuring optimum efficiency of the appointment system Deal with visits requests Administration Scanning Process Linking documents to patient clinical records Computer Process patients change of address computer data and medical records (have knowledge of Practice area.
Enter requests for home visits onto the computer system, ensuring careful recording of all relevant details and where necessary refer to duty doctor Report computer problems to helpline following practice protocol Telephone Have working knowledge of telephone system, during and after hours.

Receive and make telephone calls as required. Divert calls and take messages, ensuring accuracy of details and prompt appropriate delivery Other Tasks Clear and re-stock consulting rooms after surgeries Keeping the reception are, notice boards and leaflet dispensers tidy and free from obstructions and clutter Any other tasks allocated by managers Confidentiality: In the course of seeking treatment, patients entrust us with, or allow us to gather, sensitive information in relation to their health and other matters.

They do so in confidence and have the right to expect that staff will respect their privacy and act appropriately In the performance of the duties outlined in this Job Description, the post-holder may have access to confidential information relating to patients and their carers, Practice staff and other healthcare workers.

They may also have access to information relating to the Practice as a business organisation.
