Main duties of the job
Main Purpose:
The post holder will be working within the Network and Cyber Security teams, to provide mission-critical protection, detection and assurance services at the network layer.
You will possess a strong technical background, enabling you to assess, diagnose and provide contextualised detailed reports on current threats and the risks to the organisation’s IT Network Systems and infrastructure.
You will be responsible for incident response and regular audits of the Trust’s Network Cyber security solutions to ensure it meet regulatory compliance obligations.
You will promote Network Cyber Security communication and training for all Trust staff based on best practices and current threats.
The key objectives for the role are:- create and develop a Network Cyber aware working environment that breaks down organisational silos.
- continuously improve Network security controls for UHS Digital.
- enable and facilitate collaboration internally and externally.
- Manage the 3rd line support requirements for Network Cyber Security.
Due to the highly technical nature of this post, there will also be a requirement to undertake configuration, tuning, troubleshooting, recovery, fault resolution and in-depth technical fault diagnosis and problem-solving.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
General Duties:
As an Advanced Network Cyber Security Engineer/Analyst your responsibilities will be to:
- Manage Network cyber incidents; triage, response and escalation.
- Oversee the daily running of the Trust’s Network security layers, predominantly the IPS.
- Own the Network Vulnerability management process; demonstrating an understanding of the Trust’s risk appetite and providing appropriate remediation, mitigation, and/or escalation.
- To support, monitor, and manage the deployment process of all emergency updates and Network security patches across the Trust.
- Through proactive monitoring, identify, understand, and prioritise network threats.
- Support the IT ServiceDesk function pertaining to all matters of Network Security in a responsive priority-based manner.
- Directly support the Head of Network and IT Security with audit, assurance and compliance obligations.
- Working with suppliers, advise on measures to ensure the Trust IT Network security software is kept up to date and relevant to current threats.
- Run internal audits of security product log files and identify possible breaches and escalate accordingly.
- Provide technical IT Network security assistance to projects undertaken by the wider UHS Digital team and the Trust.
- Lead on educational and communication programs are conducted to enhance general security awareness.
- Conduct assessments and authorise Hardware/Device’s that will connect to the Trusts PCs and Networks.
- Undertake technology, data and security, risk and impact assessment of new network/cyber platforms in conjunction with UHS IT Security resource to update feeding into change advisory governance as needed.
- Provide technical expertise and input into policies, guidance and governance forums.
- Collaborate closely with the UHS IT Operations and Service Support teams to ensure the UHS environment is secure, compliant and aligned with enterprise architecture principles and decisions.
- Work independently, proactively taking ownership of any Network Security platform issues.
- Be able to analyse complex technical issues and perform root cause analysis to solve problems.
- Contribute to problem-solving discussions at cross-department technical and enterprise architecture forums, identifying best-fit solutions or ways to minimise Network cyber risk.
- Be able to focus and concentrate on solving complex problems, sometimes for prolonged periods of time.
- Be able to communicate complex technical issues and risks to non-technical business stakeholders external to the team, both verbally and written.
- Be comfortable with presenting and leading workshops with other technical staff and business stakeholders to identify needs and solutions
Requirements
Have a strong network background and experience in working with Cisco core, distribution and access layer switching infrastructure.
Experience with Cisco ACI and Nexus data centre architecture.
Experience in configuring, maintaining and utilising network management station software, such as SNMPC, Cisco DNA Centre and SolarWinds.
Have a strong understanding of the RF fundamentals and have knowledge and experience with working with large-scale wireless environments using Aruba technologies.
Understanding of ITIL incident and problem management processes.
Be able to produce high-quality technical documentation.
Experience working with Check Point firewalls utilising Maestro hyperscale VSX technologies.
Work in a project management role, providing a crucial link between estates and UHS Digital and working on key capital developments adhering to the RIBA framework.
Be certified to perform Wi-Fi survey, design, and troubleshoot Ekahau ECSE standard NHS Healthcare experience, including the ability to understand and interpret NHS standards. Local UHS knowledge is preferable.

Qualifications / training required
Essential criteria- Educated to degree level or able to demonstrate an equivalent level of knowledge, skills and experience
- Significant practical experience in a systems-support environment at a senior/specialist level
- Degree in a computing related subject.
- Cyber Security Certified in Systems or Enterprise
Previous or relevant experience necessary
