PRODUCTION TEAM LEADER NIGHTSHIFT

WORKING PATTERN: 19:00 - 05:40 Sunday - Wednesday

PURPOSE

The Production Team Leader role is crucial to our success in organising, overseeing and coordinating the safe and efficient production of our delicious products.

ACCOUNTABILITY AND SUPPORT

The Production Team Leader reports to the Production Supervisor who will provide the appropriate performance coaching and support.
It is crucial that the Production Team Leader works in collaboration with the other Team Leaders, Hygiene, Warehouse, HR, Accounts, Sales, Technical, Quality and Health & Safety functions as required, in a positive, helpful and friendly manner; taking care to ensure that the best use is made of Lazy Day Food’s time and resources.
DIRECT REPORTS

The Production Team Leader will line manage the Bakery Assistants, and have accountability for the delivery of the Production schedule.

KEY ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Production Team Leader is responsible for the following: ORGANISING AND COORDINATING PRODUCTION OPERATIONS
Establishing and maintaining effective processes and procedures to ensure that the production plan is delivered efficiently and with the minimum of waste:
  • Regular monitoring of progress to plan;
  • Capturing issues and communicating these to the Production Supervisor with intended solutions;
  • Liaising with the Production Supervisor and team to analyse the root causes of problems, identifying and implementing solutions in a timely manner;
  • Liaising with the Production Supervisor to set production targets for output, quality, delivery performance, yield and waste levels;
  • Regularly monitoring actual performance vs target;
  • Taking timely action to bring performance back on track.

QUALITY ASSURANCE AND CONTROL

Ensuring our processes and products are delivered to the highest quality standards at all times:
  • Developing quality processes and process checks;
  • Implementing existing quality checks and regular monitoring to ensure production records are completed in an accurate and timely manner;
  • Regularly checking scales, weights and metal detector to ensure compliance with our quality standards at all times;
  • Identifying and supporting the development of standard operating procedures for all production process steps including machine set up, in liaison with the team and agreeing on sign off with the Production Supervisor;
  • Responsibility for ensuring that the Production area and team are audit-ready at all times through adherence to Lean Workplace organisation processes and regimes;
  • Responsibility for acting on issues in production audits and operations management random audits.

LEADING THE TEAM

Active involvement in finding, recruiting, engaging and developing a high performing Production Team, who are committed to the delivery of the Production Schedule while supporting their colleagues in other areas of the operation;
  • Model personal work behaviours, decision-making, contributions and interpersonal interactions that reflect the organisation’s values;
  • Provide line management to direct reports that value each person’s contribution and sets a culture of high performance, empowerment, individual responsibility, inclusion and collaboration;
  • Motivate, and encourage teamwork within the team to ensure productivity targets are met and exceeded;
  • Work with Quality Assurance Supervisor, HR and Health & Safety consultants to implement internal HR and H&S policies and procedures in relation to the Production operation, and take first-line responsibly for resolving HR and H&S issues in the Production areas;
  • Ensure that employees conform to health and safety legislation, policies and standards;
  • Support employee performance through regular performance reviews and objective setting;
  • Create and maintain effective communication channels and processes that keep everyone informed, involved and engaged in the ongoing progress of operations and production;
  • Responsible for delivering high-quality induction training to all new Team Leaders and Bakery Assistants;
  • Liaising with the Production Supervisor to develop and deliver on-the-job technical training to all employees in the production area; identifying for each process step, the best person to train and buddy others in that process;
  • Responsibility for delivering and overseeing training and individual’s progress in their roles;
  • Capturing best practice through documentation and building this into standard operating procedures.
FINANCIAL CONTROL, QUALITY AND COMPLIANCE
Ensuring that Production operations are delivered cost
  • effectively, and in line with quality standards, regulation and legislation;
  • Manage within the budgets allocated and provide the required information to ensure that there are no labour, materials, service levels or production shortages;
  • Responsibility for achieving full compliance on internal/external audits;
  • Clarify expectations with the Production function, ensuring that the team is adequately resourced and that employees are fully conversant with company policies, and have a clear understanding of their areas of responsibility;
  • Ensure employees comply with health and safety legislation, policies and standards at all times;
  • Implement and coordinate health and safety procedures, and collaborate with health and safety and quality assurance functions;
  • Comply with the Health & Safety Act 1974 and resultant regulations and codes of practice and follow site security policy and procedures.
CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT
  • Responsibility for identifying opportunities for improvement in productivity and cost savings;
  • Responsible for engaging employees and the team in continuous improvement activity, creating opportunities for people to contribute ideas and identify solutions to issues as they arise.
