We are delighted to welcome applications from outstanding, dynamic and suitably experienced individuals for the role of Theatre Manager, to be in post ready for the School opening in September 2025. This is a rare opportunity for the right candidate to work with the Founding Director of Performing Arts to help shape and develop world-class Performing Arts provision from the ground up.The successful candidate will have overall responsibility for technical management and oversight of the School’s professional-standard theatre, as well as production management, Front of House and facilities management responsibilities, the precise details of which will be shaped by the qualifications and experience of the post holder.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Being responsible to the Director of Performing Arts for the daily running and oversight of the School’s Drama and Performing Arts spaces, including the theatre, drama studio and recital hall
- Overseeing the day-to-day scheduling of theatre spaces, ensuring that teaching, rehearsal and production needs are consistently met
- Working with the Director of Performing Arts to help ensure the provision of a comprehensive co-curricular offering from the Theatre, including possibly running student clubs and activities, and helping to foster a culture in which broad and regular co-curricular engagement is a routine aspect of student life
- Recruiting, training and managing a production crew of students, allocating teams for individual productions, and managing and reviewing their work
- Depending on the expertise and experience of the successful candidate, facilitating student clubs and activities as part of the School’s wider co-curricular programme
- Creating, implementing and overseeing detailed production schedules for each project
- Chairing regular production meetings in respect of individual productions
- Managing individual production budgets allocated by the Director of Performing Arts, keeping spreadsheets for relevant expenditure and creating reports by production
- Assisting the Director of Performing Arts with construction of the annual theatre budget
- Overseeing all aspects of health and safety in theatre performance, teaching and ancillary spaces
- Creating individual risk assessments for each production
- Ensuring that standing risk assessments are regularly reviewed and updated
- Ensuring the maintenance and safety of all working areas, implementing best practice across the department
- Making a significant contribution to production work in an area of individual technical specialism
- Playing a part in the staffing of shows during performances in a technical supervisory, fire steward or front-of-house capacity
- Liaising with other internal users of theatre spaces, ensuring technical requirements are met as appropriate
- As the School and its theatre grow, assisting with the recruitment, induction and line management of any additional theatre staff
- Leading on ensuring that the theatre is routinely an organised, tidy and inspiring learning environment
- Supporting the Director of Performing Arts, the Partnerships Lead and others as appropriate to develop and support Community Partnership opportunities
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:
- A high level of technical theatre skills, including rigging, focusing and programming lighting, use of microphones and Q Lab and, ideally, some set building
- Significant experience of working as a theatre technician or production manager, ideally acquired in a high-performing school environment
- Experience of strategic planning
- Excellent organisational, interpersonal and communication skills
- High levels of digital literacy
- The resilience, drive, strength of character and sense of both humour and perspective to thrive in a fast-paced, demanding and ambitious environment
