We have a Senior Theatre Practitioner position that has become available.

You will need in depth knowledge of a variety of ENT surgery.

Considerable experience within the ENT speciality as a Band 6 scrub practitioner or scrub experience as Band 5.

Commitment to clinical effectiveness and evidence-based care.

Good communicational skills.

Effective team working.

Other experience in other specialities will be seen as a bonus.

Working days are Monday to Friday.
Full details will be discussed at interview.
Shifts are 08:00 to 21:00 for long days, 37.5 hours per week.

Flexible days.

After registration with NHSP can apply for Bank shifts.

Weekend work on your availability with all disciplines.

Main duties of the job

To Share and teach juniors your knowledge of ENT.

Provide leadership and supervision for theatre support workers, nursing, midwifery and ODP students, junior theatre staff, return to practice nurses and adaptation students.

Develop and promote good working relationships within the wider team.

Promote patient, staff and relatives’ safety at all times and be familiar with current Health & Safety policies reporting any concerns to Team Leader or Theatre Manager.

To take charge of the Theatre during the absence of Team Leader.

To participate in discussions relating to care and its delivery and evaluation with other members of the MDT.

Provide clinical support to peers.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The scrub practitioner’s duties are to ENT but could cover other specialities in the department.

Ophthalmology will be a great asset.

Be responsible for the management and organisation of the operative list and clinical care.

Reportable to Line manager.

Be responsible for the efficient communication of changes within the operating department to all members of the multidisciplinary theatre team.

Undertake the safe and efficient transfer of patients to other hospitals.

Ensure Trust policies and guidelines for correct ordering, storage and use of all drugs are adhered to.

Ensure that Trust policies and guidelines for correct clinical practices are followed.

Be aware of Risk Management and Clinical Governance and the implications this has on clinical practice.

Ensure the theatre staff and multidisciplinary team are aware of policies and procedures relating to Fire, Health & Safety, COSHH and Infection control.

Report to Team Leader and or Theatre Manager any accidents, untoward incidents and complaints as soon as possible to include completion of the relevant documentation and dispatched to the appropriate department.

Education and qualifications

Essential criteria
  • First level registration with the NMC or HCPC.
  • Post-registration education programme related to speciality
  • Evidence of professional development.
Desirable criteria
  • Working towards a degree
  • ILS/ALS.
  • ENT post-registration education programme.
  • Mentorship course or equivalent

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Up to date knowledge of relevant political and professional issues in health care
  • Understanding of principles of budget management.
  • In depth knowledge of a variety of ENT surgery.
  • Knowledge of Clinical Governance & Benchmarking.
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of developing care pathways

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Considerable experience within the ENT speciality as a scrub practitioner
  • Mentoring and facilitating experience
  • Commitment to clinical effectiveness and evidence-based care.
Desirable criteria
  • Substantive scrub experience at Band 5 level
