Job overview
Exciting opportunity to work in the busiest Stroke Centre in the UK. You will be an integral part of the Stroke Team at Salford Royal Hospital.
A Comprehensive Stroke Centre which comprises 9 Consultants supported by Registrars, JCFs and nurse practitioners. The post will involve inpatient management of acute/hyperacute stroke, stroke rehabilitation and TIA care.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will work alongside a team of Consultants, Stroke fellows, junior medical staff, and specialist nurses to optimise the running of the Comprehensive Stroke Centre.
The post-holder will work across all aspects of the service but mainly be involved in hyper acute and acute stroke care besides TIA management. There is close supervision by the Stroke Consultants and other appropriate specialist colleagues (for example Consultant Neuroradiologists).
Educational Opportunities
There is a regular teaching programme in stroke medicine and the candidate is expected to actively participate in it. In addition, there is neurology teaching session and neuroradiology MDT meetings. You will be expected to participate in the teaching and training of junior trainees and medical students.Each senior clinical fellow will be allocated an educational supervisor who will be responsible to ensure that your portfolios are up to date. The key aim is to develop the knowledge, and skills required to work in a high-quality stroke service.
On call commitments
There will be participation in the middle grade on call rota. Successful applicants will have a named education supervisor and would be encouraged to be involved in clinical audit, quality improvement and research work during the post, thus facilitating professional portfolio development.

Qualifications & Professional Registration
Essential criteria- Full registration with GMC
- MRCP
Experience
Essential criteria- Experience in stroke care at either SHO(CMT) or SpR(ST) level, or in a stroke research post
- Clinical experience in General Medicine at SpR(ST) level
- Experience of working in a team
- Minimum 1 year as an SpR(ST)
- Experience of MDT Working
Knowledge and Skills
Essential criteria- Evidence of good written and verbal communication skills
- An understanding of the major risk factors for stroke at a population level and at the level of the individual
- Awareness of specific needs of stroke patients and carers, issues relating to service provision for stroke patients in hospital and the community
- Ability and enthusiasm to teach medical undergraduates and Allied Health Professionals
- Personal participation in audit
