A modern, proactive risk and compliance function is essential to support and protect the Council. This function must:

  • Identify, assess, and assign ICT risks to appropriate risk owners. Ensuring pro-active steps are applied to ensure risks are mitigated or closed promptly to ensure the Council’s operations remain secure and resilient.

  • Utilize advanced analytical skills to interpret data, identify patterns, and make informed decisions to enhance the Council’s security posture.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in ICT risk management and compliance, with a proven ability to develop and implement effective risk management strategies and governance. Key qualifications and experience include:

  • Extensive experience in managing ICT risk and compliance within a large organisation, preferably within the public sector.
  • In-depth knowledge of compliance requirements for local government, including PSN, CAF for Local Government, NHS DSPT, DWP MoU, and PCI-DSS.

  • Proven experience in producing detailed management reports that communicate complex information clearly and concisely.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to foster a culture of compliance and security awareness.
  • Experience in managing and developing an ISMS policy library.
The Council is committed to investing in your professional growth and providing opportunities for continuous learning and development. If you are passionate about governance, risk and compliance and have the expertise to help us enhance our Cyber Security risk and compliance function, we would love to hear from you.

Join us in our mission to keep the Council secure and resilient in the face of evolving cyber threats.

In accordance with Home Office guidance, successful candidates must evidence their right to work in the UK before commencement of employment. This is not a role we consider to be eligible for sponsorship under the Skilled Worker route based on Manchester City Council policy.

Candidates are therefore encouraged to consider their own right to work options without the requirement for Manchester City Council sponsorship.

These, combined with our flexible working policies such as disability-related leave, enable our employees to perform their role, thrive and be their authentic selves in work. We’ve also included some useful tips on how to submit the best application.

What we will need from you if you’re successful

If you are successfully offered a position with us, the pre-employment checks you will be asked to undertake will depend on the role you've applied for. As a guide, these may include:
