Job overview

Enhanced level practice describes a level that can only be delivered by registered professionals with statutory registration who have gained additional post-registration education and experiential learning in a relevant subject area.

This role will involve autonomous, independent clinical practice, as well as leadership of the enhanced practitioners working in the department

The post holder will act as a senior healthcare professional within the haematology team and (where necessary) provide support to the Enhanced Practitioner workforce in haematology
  • Provide education and support for patients receiving oral and/or parenteral chemotherapy including consent for treatment
  • Use of protocols, specialist knowledge and examination skills to assess patients in follow-up and pre-chemotherapy clinics
  • Authorisation of blood products following successful completion of National Blood Service
  • Provide telephone support for haematology cancer patients before, during and after chemotherapy treatment
  • Perform bone marrow biopsies following successful completion of program of training
  • Undertake non-medical prescribing following successful completion of program of training
Main duties of the job

To expertly deliver highly complex sensitive condition related information to patients and relatives

To provide specialist support and advice in clinical areas, wards and outpatients, to optimise quality improvement opportunities.

To work as patient advocate, to help negotiate the patient journey and ensure optimum care is provided to each patient

Support on the promotion of the trust’s Haematology service across the organisation and to other NHS/health organisations or regulating bodies.

Demonstrate team leadership, resilience, and determination, managing situations that are unfamiliar, complex, or unpredictable and seeking to build confidence in others.

Act as a role model, educator, supervisor, coach, and mentor, seeking to instil and develop the confidence of others, applying a coaching course to your portfolio if supported by department and in line with service need.

Person specification

DIploma or Degree in Nursing Studies

Essential criteria
  • Pass
  • Experience of Hamatology/ Oncology Nursing
  • Experience of delivering cancer treatment
