An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Physiotherapy Assistant to work 22.5 hours per week within the Women's and Children's Physiotherapy team, based at the Royal Bolton Hospital.

We are looking for someone who is enthusiastic and motivated, with good organisational and communication skills. The successful candidate must work well as part of a team.

The successful applicant will be part of a multi-professional therapy team working across a variety of adult (e.g. Maternity, Gynaecology, Urology, Gastroenterology and Colorectal services) and paediatric services.

The role will involve direct patient contact on the wards and in outpatients and through group based activities, along with some administration duties to assist the day-to-day operations of the team.

Main duties of the job

To carry out specific care and treatment on the ward or in clinical settings, under the guidance and delegation of qualified staff, in accordance with the Therapy plan/programme.

To be able to recognise improvements or adverse developments in the patient’s condition, report to the supervisor and document it.

To implement treatment programmes with individuals and groups in acute and community settings, under direct or indirect supervision from a registered Therapist.

To prepare the patient and the environment for therapeutic intervention when required.

To maintain the hygiene and cleanliness of all relevant clinical areas in accordance with IPC protocols and processes.

To use a range of verbal and non-verbal communication methods, to effectively communicate with and gather information from patients/carers and feedback accurately to therapy colleagues.

To identify when intervention with a patient is appropriate and be able to modify intervention within agreed level of competence.

To physically move and handle patients and equipment within health & safety guidelines in a variety of settings, to maximise the patient’s comfort and minimise adverse effects of pressure.

To process referrals and have an awareness of out of area patients, making onward referrals where appropriate.

To liaise directly with the community and voluntary sector and other relevant support agencies to gain information regarding services available to patients.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • NVQ level 2 or equivalent qualification &/or competencies through job experience
  • GCSE or equivalent in Maths and English
Desirable criteria
  • NVQ Level 3 or equivalent

Other

Essential criteria
  • Ability to work flexibly to meet service needs
  • Ability to travel around the area independently

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of working in an NHS trust, healthcare or education setting
  • Experience of working in a team
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of working closely in an acute NHS Trust
  • Previous therapy assistant experience
  • Experience of leading group sessions

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Able to work independently with individuals or groups
  • Effective written, verbal and non-verbal communication skills
  • Able to manage time effectively with a busy workload

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge on how disability affects physical and mental health and patient engagement with therapy
Desirable criteria
  • knowledge of common pelvic health and paediatric conditions in relation to physiotherapy
