An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our busy midwifery team as a Ward Clerk.
This role requires individuals to work as a proactive member of the ward team and to undertake a range of duties to assist the ward team in maintaining the smooth running of the clinical area.
Applicants require a good level of education, be reliable, and committed to supporting delivering excellent maternity care. Basic knowledge of antenatal care and maternity services would be advantageous and recent experience with a variety of IT systems is essential.
Hours per week: 30
Main duties of the job
The post holder will liaise with and provide the multidisciplinary team with timely and accurate information required to support and maintain patient flow, under the direction of the ward manager.
To provide clerical support to the maternity unit, managing all relevant returns, filing and answering the telephone. To work as an effective member of the team, liaising with all midwifery and medical staffing on clerical and information matters within the area of responsibility.
To use initiative in organising all workloads to ensure efficient time management and to provide the initial point of contact for visitors to the ward.
To operate and monitor security systems and assist with security monitoring in the department.

Qualification
Essential criteria- Good standard of General Education to GCSE level this must include English and Mathematics/relevant equivalent
- NVQ in customer care/customer services or Computer Skill Course (ECDL – European Computer Driving Licence)
Experience
Essential criteria- Previous experience of clerical duties
- Previous experience of working with members of the public
- Experience of IT systems
- Recent experience within NHS settings
- Experience in the use of NHS systems such as PAS, EMIS
Knowledge and Skills
Essential criteria- Excellent communication skills, verbal and written
- Computer literate
- Demonstrates commitment to maintain personal development
- Understanding of confidentiality and data protection
- Understanding of health care provision within the Trust
- Basic knowledge of antenatal care and maternity services
