Job overview

We are looking for an enthusiastic Senior Clerk to come and join our friendly Admin and Clerical Team in the Rheumatology Department, which forms part of the Musculoskeletal Group within Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. They will work in admin, overseeing the administration from referral to discharge across the various.

The successful candidate will have a methodical approach to work, be extremely well organised and have a flexible attitude incorporating the Trust PROUD values. With a clear understanding of patient confidentiality as well as a background in an administrative setting this post would ideally suit an individual wanting to further progress their career.

Main duties of the job

To work collaboratively with the clerical and clinical teams to provide an accurate and effective administrative service to the MSK Outpatient Department. The post holder will work with minimal supervision and be expected to work flexibly as part of a multi-disciplinary team providing a wide range of specific administrative duties.

This vacancy is advertised on a fixed term contract basis for a period of a maximum of 14 months due to maternity leave of the substantive post holder. The fixed term contract status of the post holder will be reviewed in accordance with the Trust's legal obligations regarding fixed term contracts and statutory maternity provisions.

Qualifications / Training

Essential criteria
  • 5 GCSE or equivalent, to include English Language & Mathematics (4/C grade or above)
Desirable criteria
  • IT qualification e.g. European Computer Driving Licence, or equivalent experience.
  • NVQ Level III in Business Administration / Customer Service/ IT

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Significant clerical experience gained from working within a patient administration department in a hospital setting
  • Experience dealing with the general public
  • A demonstrable understanding of the importance of data quality and the impact of poor quality on operational systems
  • Experience of proactive involvement in service development/improvement
  • Experience of using a Patient Administration System ie Lorenzo
  • Experience of putting performance reports together and analysing information
  • Experience supervising other members of staff and coordinating duties across a team
  • Experience in delivery of induction programmes and staff training.
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of inpatient, outpatient or waiting list management
  • Experience recording, retrieving and collecting patient information within the NHS
