An exciting job share opportunity has arisen for the Head of Post-Registration Education Commissioning and Quality within HEIW's Education Strategy and Transformation Directorate. The position is permanent for 22.5 hours per week. This pivotal role will shape the future of health professional education in Wales, ensuring sustainable workforce development and high-quality patient care.
Main duties of the job
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the commissioning and allocation of postgraduate/post-registration education funding.
- Provide strategic oversight and policy development for health professional education at a national level.
- Collaborate with Health Boards and Trusts to identify and address workforce education needs, including advanced practice and non-medical prescribing.
- Ensure value for money, quality assurance, and alignment with Welsh Government policies.
- Represent HEIW at national and external meetings, influencing decision-making and policy direction.
- Deputise for the Deputy Director of Education Commissioning and Quality when required.
We are looking for a dynamic and autonomous professional with a strong background in health education strategy. You should have experience in senior leadership, budget management, and delivering high-impact education initiatives across the health sector.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post. Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Qualifications and Knowledge
Essential criteria- Registered Healthcare Professional requiring registration on a Clinical Professional Register (HCPC/NMC) e.g. Registered Nurse, Allied Health Professional etc
- Educated to master’s level or equivalent level of experience of working at a senior level in specialist area
- Evidence of continuing professional development
- Specialist knowledge of education provision and delivery
- Significant specialist Knowledge/experience of education commissioning
- Understanding of the background to and aims of current healthcare policy in Wales
Experience
Essential criteria- Senior management experience including experience in budgetary management
- Knowledge/experience of procurement services and tendering
- Knowledge/experience of working in Higher Education or NHS
- Evidence of effective partnership working
- Project management experience
- Knowledge and experience of change management
- Knowledge of Health and Social Care policies in Wales
- Knowledge of Education policies in Wales and the UK
- Knowledge of vocational education and workforce development
- Knowledge of health care regulation

Please be advised that there is a temporary top up for Bands 2 and 3 to reflect the incorporation of the top up to the living wage of £12.60 per hour - £24,638 per annum.
This temporary top up will be in place until the annual pay uplift for 2025/26 is confirmed
