Behaviour Mentor - Primary Schools Across Derby

Are you passionate about supporting children in overcoming behavioural challenges and helping them thrive in school?

We are seeking a dedicated Behaviour Mentor to work in primary schools across Derby, providing essential support to pupils who require assistance with behaviour management and emotional development.

Role:
  • As a Behaviour Mentor, you will work directly with children who exhibit challenging behaviours, providing both 1:1 and small group support.
  • Your role will be key in helping students break down barriers to learning, promote positive behaviour, and foster emotional well-being within a nurturing and structured environment.
Responsibilities:
  • Provide 1:1 and small group mentoring for pupils with behavioural difficulties.
  • Develop and implement behaviour management strategies in collaboration with teachers and SENCOs.
  • Act as a positive role model, encouraging good behaviour and reinforcing school values.
  • Help de-escalate challenging situations with a calm, solution-focused approach.
What We're Looking For:
  • We are seeking an experienced Behaviour Mentor with a strong background in supporting primary-aged children with challenging behaviour.
  • The ideal candidate will be patient, empathetic, and proactive in finding creative solutions to support children's needs.
Requirements:
  • Qualifications: A minimum of a Level 2 Teaching Assistant qualification or a relevant qualification in Youth Work, Psychology, or Counselling.
  • Experience: Proven experience in working with children in a school or similar setting, particularly focusing on behaviour management and pastoral support.
  • Behaviour Management: Strong experience in handling challenging behaviour and implementing effective strategies to support student progress.
  • Communication: Excellent communication skills to build positive relationships with pupils, staff, and parents.
  • SEN Experience: A good understanding of Special Educational Needs, particularly supporting children with ADHD, Autism, or Emotional and Behavioural Difficulties (EBD).
  • Patience and Resilience: Ability to remain calm under pressure and manage challenging behaviour with a proactive, positive attitude.
  • Team Player: Experience in working as part of a team to consistently implement behaviour management strategies across the school.
  • Safeguarding Knowledge: A solid understanding of safeguarding and child protection policies.
  • Enhanced DBS: A current Enhanced DBS check or the willingness to apply for one.
Desirable Skills & Qualifications:
  • Training in de-escalation techniques, restorative practices, or mental health first aid.
  • Experience in therapeutic interventions such as play therapy or trauma-informed approaches.
  • Familiarity with behaviour tracking tools like CPOMS for monitoring pupil progress and reporting effectively.
