Job overview
The post holder will be the Specialist Clinical Lead for the Neuro-Rehabilitation team and will work in tandem with the Consultant Neurologist with a specialist interest in Neuro-rehabilitation and the Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) to provide holistic management and care to children referred for Neuro-rehabilitation.
The post holder will be responsible and accountable for the delivery of effective rehabilitation to children at BCH and develop protocols, guidelines and procedures and be responsible for providing expert advice on service development. They will be the lead for the Neuro-rehabilitation research strategy and publish clinical papers in peer reviewed journals.
Main duties of the job
To assess and treat own specialist caseload of patients requiring Neuro-Rehabilitation in conjunction with support from the wider MDT.
Provide expert knowledge and work closely with consultant medical colleagues, therapists and other professionals, providing clinical leadership with Child and Young People (CYP) who are undergoing or have undergone Neuro-rehabilitation at BCH and wider region.
To provide strong professional and innovative expert clinical leadership to the multidisciplinary team working in this field and demonstrate improved provision of effective clinical interventions, ensuring that practice is consistent and evidence-based at BCH, across the region, nationally and internationally.
Take the lead role in identifying training needs, delivering post graduate training and maximising development opportunities for staff within the Allied Health Profession (AHP) / MDT Neurosciences team, specifically around the management of children with neurological impairments, extending the scope of practice within appropriate governance frameworks.
Work with local universities to develop post graduate training opportunities and create an environment that supports and facilitates audit/research activities.
To develop the short and long term strategic plan of Neuro-rehabilitation at the Trust and establish strong partnership working local, national and international networks.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
Essential criteria- HCPC Registration
- Professional knowledge acquired through degree in a Therapeutic profession e.g. Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, Speech and Language.Therapy supplemented by specialist training to masters level in a relevant area e.g. clinical/research/education. plus further theoretical knowledge and practical experience in specialist field to doctorate or equivalent level.
- Relevant post-graduate courses including but not exclusive to: Neurology, rehabilitation, ABI, TBI, Trauma.
KNOWLEDGE & NATURE OF EXPERIENCE
Essential criteria- Evidence of the ability to assess, develop & implement therapy for a specialist neuro-rehabilitation caseload.
- Proven track record of therapy expertise in pediatrics and neurological care including rehabilitation.
- Evidence of extensive continuing professional development.
- Highly expert clinical reasoning and critical evaluation skills.
- Evidence of undertaking and involvement of research and audit.
- Evidenced implementation of research/audit findings.
- Published clinical papers in peer-reviewed journals.
- Organising/lecturing on regional, national and international courses.
- Involvement in regional and national and international issues.
